Roof replacement at work

They started the roof replacement here at work on the 9th. Seeing as how Winter decided to revisit last week they did get much done at all.
The proposed skylights they were considering at one point are not going in. Too bad as one of them would have been right over my cube. Such is life and budget constraints.
Right now they are moving some stuff on the roof and it sounds more like they are bowling up there then working. It really rather distracting and trying to get much of anything done is a bit hard. If they are doing most of the "loud" stuff before 8 am I would hate to be here at 7 am like a few sick individuals are.

All I really want to do is go home and continue my current game of Civ IV.

Computer repair silliness

Note to self: When replacing a power supply remember to check the power button cable is still connected to the motherboard.

The computer gets crabby and refuses to start when the power cable going from the power button to the MB is not connected.

Since I got that figured out hopefully thecoddess' computer will be more happy with life and not freeze up any more.

Upgraded from a 420w power supply to a 500w power supply so hopefully that was the problem.

There was an HUGE explosion at the Falk Corporation at 35th and Canal near downtown Milwaukee. I was late in coming in due to dropping RHDS off at daycare this morning, but people here were saying that they felt the explosion.

At the moment all is known is that 2 buildings were pretty much leveled and the explosion was felt about 10 miles away.
Current reports are saying nine injured. On the radio a worker who called in sick today said there is up to 300
people working first shift.

Snow and stuff.

Looks like My neck of the woods in Kenowhere got the worst of the snow. I took some pictures and put them in my gallery at http://pics.livejournal.com/zman923/gallery/0000c0t5 .

All three of us stayed home since there was already four and a half inches of snow at 5:30 when Karen got up to check things out.

Once the snow stops I'll take some more and add them to the gallery. I will probably do another post saying it was updated.

Work remodel of sorts

The building I work has a leaky roof. This really would be a bad thing except that I am on the top floor and most of the servers for the City of Milwaukee are about 50 feet away from me. We all know how much computers love water.
After at the 6 year I have been here they are finally getting around to redoing the roof. They are going to making a green roof to help make things a wee bit more environmentally friendly around here. The real bonus to me in all of this is that apparently at one time there were some skylights in the building. Since they are redoing the entire roof DPW decided to put 2 of the skylights back in that are over the office area. One of the spots happens to be over or just off to the side of where my cube is.

Downside is that they are planning on starting the construction before the end of the month. Yeah, lets open two big ass holes in the roof (one is 8x6 and the other is 4x8 from the info that we got so far)in November. In Wisconsin. Since the construction for the skylight will most likely force me and 2 other to move until it is done. This could be a problem since I think there are only 2 empty cubes open right now. Not really my problem since I don't get paid enough to figure out were to stick two employees and a contractor for up to 8 weeks.

I am sure things will get figured out. In the meantime I get to think about getting at least some natural light around my cube for a change.

EDIT: Thanks to Da Wife and numerous people on another community, I have found out that today is the 75th anniversary of the the debut of Dick Tracy. If my parents were more geeking I would say the planned their wedding for this date for this reason. 48 years for them today. :)
